Poem a Day – Day 18 – Prompt Black Out

With yesterday’s prompt I spent a lot of time playing around with the magnetic poetry in the prompt because it was such fun. Today’s OctPoWriMo prompt was also really creative and I spent a lot of time messing around with a lot of different ways to discover “found poetry” by blacking out existing text in a book or online pages etc.

I looked at books around the house but I didn’t want to black out a real book. So I snagged pages from favorite books that I have on my Kindle app on my phone and used a photo editor. I just never found a good clean way to get a result I was happy with.

I finally picked up some magazines and tried to find a small section I could mark up that didn’t have really tiny font. Basically I have spent a lot of time to come up with very little. Still, though, it’s been good exploring a new way to get to a creative place. 🙂

Below is the poem and the text from which I took the words for it.

You discover
newfound respect.

Men, let’s embrace change today
the image, more important.

Acknowledge this
book-loving, devoted spirit.

    1. Thanks! It really has helped me to have committed to the challenge so I have to post every day – otherwise the temptation to quit may have been stronger. Appreciate your reading and your kind words 🙂
